Statutory Testing
Children in Year 6 will be taking the national statutory tests in May. Children in Year 2 will take the optional tests in May. Please view our Calendar Page to view the dates.
The tests will provide information about how your child is attaining in maths and reading compared to children the same age nationally. Teacher assessment will be used for writing and science.

Why do we assess children at Marine Park Primary School?
At Marine Park Primary School, assessment is an important part of teaching and learning. We assess children to understand what they know, what they can do and what they need to learn next. Assessment helps teachers to identify strengths and any gaps in learning, plan appropriate next steps and ensure that every child receives the support or challenge they need to make good progress. It also helps us to monitor achievement across the school and communicate clearly with parents and carers about their child's learning.
When do we assess?
Our whole-school assessment weeks take place three times each academic year, in October, February and June. These provide planned points during the year for teachers to review pupils' learning and progress. The information gathered helps us to identify pupils who may need additional support or greater challenge, evaluate the impact of teaching and interventions, and ensure that learning is building securely over time. The June assessment also provides important information to support transition into the next year group.
What do we assess?
We use assessment throughout school for Maths and English and all other curriculum subjects. Assessment happens every day through questioning, discussion, observation, marking and feedback. It allows teachers to check pupils' understanding during lessons and adapt teaching quickly in response to their needs. Assessment tests takes place at key points during the year and provides a broader picture of what pupils have learned and can apply independently. Used together these assessments help us to make informed judgements about achievement and progress and, most importantly, ensure that assessment leads to the right next steps for every child.
